Billy The Kid turns 1!

Hi Ya’ll

What have I been up to lately? Planning, planning, planning! The LO had his first birthday party. So obviously we (I) went balls to the wall with a Billy the Kid themed party. The fisherman now officially thinks I’m nuts – as if he didn’t know….

Tutorial for creating the little hobby horses can be found at: https://liagriffith.com/diy-felt-stick-horses/ and if you are interested in seeing all the lovely ideas I didn’t get to make / craft / conjure, please check out my Pinterest board here: http://bit.ly/1MYOJLN.

Cheers

Brows and Threading

My eyebrows are right out of hand.

A few months ago I foolishly decided that my temperamental threading lady had seen the last of me. I opted instead to go to some dodgy hair salon where a just out of beauty school 19 year old proceeded to ooh and aah her way through my brows. I say through – because they were practically see-through once she was done. Suffice it to say, I have spent the last two months “growing them out”.

They are now officially about 3000 hairs beyond where any amount of “growing them out” should ever have taken them. Which brings me to my current dilemma – where in Cape Town does one get one’s brows threaded? After asking around, I quickly realised that my crazy threading lady is the same crazy threading lady everyone else I know goes to – what is a girl to do? So I Googled it. I now have a 4:45pm appointment with a complete stranger called Laila at her home. What if I get sold into slavery? Well at least I’ll have great looking brows for a while.

Keep Running

Some inspiration to keep me moving!

This is actually one that I plan on using for the wedding - it makes me feel warm inside.

YES! I am!

This sums up exactly why I want to run.

Hopefully I will see some improvement on the body side though....

Wish I could whip on my sneakers now and get going!

Tangled up in Staind

So we finally have a first dance song (drum roll please!):

Tangled up in you - Staind
You're my world
The shelter from the rain
You're the pills
That take away my pain
You're the light
That helps me find my way
You're the words
When I have nothing to say

[Chorus]
And in this world
Where nothing else is true
Here I am
Still tangled up in you
I'm still tangled up in you

Still tangled up in you

You're the fire
That warms me when I'm cold
You're the hand
I have to hold as I grow old
You're the shore
When I am lost at sea
You're the only thing
That I like about me

[Chorus]

How long has it been
Since this storyline began
And I hope it never ends
And goes like this forever

In this world
Where nothing else is true
Here I am
Still tangled up in you
Tangled up in you
I'm still tangled up in you
Still tangled up in you

I’m new to Staind – but the fisherman loves their music. When I heard this song – all I could think was WOW! How did they know?

My quest

I am on a quest. A quest to self-enlightenment – I want to be serene and know the meaning of life dammit! And I want to know it NOW – no yesterday to be more accurate.

So I’ve started reading. Right now I’ve got the Alchemist  (Paulo Coelho )and The Monk who sold his Ferrari (Robin Sharma). Is it wise to be reading two such profound books at the same time you may ask? Should I be concentrating and absorbing? Well the truth is… I tried. After the first few pages of the Alchemist I found my inner self screaming at Santiago for trusting strangers. So I’m resting it in favor of the Monk who sold his Ferrari. Maybe when my blood pressure returns to normal I can forgive Santiago and move on.

Watch this space for my words of enlightenment and inner peace.

I want to take pictures...

I want to be able to take amazing pictures of absolute crap and have people look at it and see something infinitely profound.
Like this:
How many pea shots had to be taken to get this one perfect shot? Fortunately – I will never know, I don’t want to take pictures of peas.
I want to take pictures like these – moody ones, full of shadow and light.

Now all I need to do is:

1.       Move to a place where there are beaches like that.

2.       Find a poor guy with helium balloons. (WTF? For real! What would that cost? Or are the party places in Cape Town overcharging?)

3.       Find an elephant to read to.

P.S: I have just discovered Instagram - slow I know - but I have a freaking failberry. These were taken using a Galaxy Tab.

The 'Pinterest' wedding

A friend of a friend recently got married. Her wedding was cute. My friend described it as a “pinterest” wedding. She said it the way my mother said “they had little crocheted swans at their wedding”. I have since grown up in fear of the crocheted swan. Heaven forbid you have something that dates your day (cue *gasp!*). Looking back I now realise the doubt started with the photobooth post. I love all the cutesy stuff – but I need to stay true to who the fisherman and I are, and that for him is totally chilled and down to earth, whereas for me it’s going fucking crazy for three hours to achieve that totally chilled and down to earth look. So to all things wedding right now – I say kiss my ass. I will do what I wanna do, the way I wanna do it. The ranting in this post may have been powered by that 4pm itch you get when you just want to go home, but you’re stuck at the office in your open plan office with the resident clock watcher breathing down your neck.

Congratulations Lee & Mac!

Todays post is in honour of an awesome couple that just got engaged!
One of my brideslaves Miss Lee and her boyfriend have decided to take the plunge. Lucky me, now I get to be a bride and a brideslave. Lee and I are having totally different wedding styles. Where I am rustic, she is BLING! She puts the chic in my rustic chic. Her wedding colours are purple and white with lighting playing a huge role in creating the mood.

Here's my ode to purple, a wonderful colour for two amazing, fun, weird and totally insane friends. Cheers to you guys!

Confessions of a Shoe Ho

I love shoes as much as the fisherman loves fishing. ALOT.

So what better way to express my love than to wear the perfect pair(s) of heels on our big day? I've spotted and interesting trend in customising wedding shoes and its definitely something I am dying to try, all I need to do is find the perfect "canvas".

King Protea

What could possibly be more vintage South African than the amazing King Protea? A definite must have!
I love love love the softness of the colour palette! Soft pinks, greens and cream, add some gold for the glam factor and I am set!

My apologies for the lack of credits! I promise to do better next time.

Glove-Love

To Glove, or not to Glove? That is the question.

No one wears gloves like Jackie O.... should the rest of us mere mortals even try?

When I look at gloves I think vintage, and these give me that warm feeling all over!
These are my lust haves for the day.

O Lovely Cake!

I don't like cake. I'm just not a cake person, give me a samosa and I'll be in heaven! Cake just doesn't do it for me. Unfortunately (well, fortunately for my thighs!) I cant very well have a Wedding Samosa..... And so the hunt for the perfect cake began!

I very rapidly realised that Swiss buttercream is the way to go if I want a yummy cake, but did that mean a not so pretty cake?

I think not! All of the cakes below are apparently iced with buttercream in some form or other!

Can anyone say swoon?

Ostrich Feather Love

I've never liked the cliche look of flower girls wearing wings. Until now.

Taken from Green Wedding Shoes - Destination Wedding
So amazing! The only problem is, these wings are made of dried Pampas Grass, an invasive species that is banned in sunny South Africa.
Fortunately, we have an abundance of Ostrich feathers, which also look pretty - but are they rocking enough? I definitely smell a DIY attempt in the making!

Framed Phrases

I just can't seem to get the idea of framed phrases out of my head! It is literally driving me insane! At the moment my two favourites (featured in an earlier post - Phrases in a Frame) are:

Today I will marry my best friend, what a happy day!

                                                                         And

All because two people fell in love...

I have been searching for more, and this is all I can come up with. None of them touch me in the special place the two above do though.... So I guess I'll just have to keep looking.

  • Love is a smoke raised by the fume of sighs. ~ William Shakespeare ~
  • When you fish for love, bait with your heart, not your brain. - Mark Twain
All of the ones I've seen, like the examples above just strike me as advice though... when all I want are happy day quotes... any help out there in the universe?

Phrases in a Frame

One thing I have noticed is I seem to be a sucker for these:

Sound familiar? This phrase sums up the entire feel of our wedding!

So true Mr Fisherman!
I am already collecting the frames!

My Wedding Inspiration Board

I have finally finished a project I've been working on since March when the Fisherman and I got engaged! One of the first things everyone told me I needed to do was work on an inspiration board, so i googled it. I found so many inspiration boards - I wanted to puke! How on earth was I supposed to come up with a star worthy inspiration board as fantastic as the ones on all the wedding sites?

Especially when two of my brideslaves are amazing fashionistas in their own right - both of whom warned me in no uncertain terms that YES - they would be judging!

Well after many months of image searching (and taking one or two pic's myself), this is what I've come up with. Nowhere near as polished as I would have liked, unfortunately not all my inspirational images would co-operate and be from the same color palette. But this definitely captures the mood of our big day.

Now all I have to do is turn it into a reality!
